Overview
Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers in the Southern Louisiana area who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves delivering high‑quality design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers, collaborating with clients, and ensuring project excellence across a range of assignments.
TravelRemote‑working capabilities are available; however, candidates must reside within a commutable distance of Southern Louisiana (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette). The selected candidate will be required to attend in‑person meetings and assignments throughout the Louisiana customer territory as needed.
Responsibilities- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers, including individual design tasks and quality‑control efforts.
- Develop work packages for over‑head (OH), underground (UG), utility‑right‑of‑way (URD), make‑ready, and street light projects, utilizing customer GIS and work‑management systems.
- Collaborate with engineers and design leads on broad client issues, ensuring schedule adherence and team quality control while managing scope, schedule, and budget.
- Review engineering design packages with clients and perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up.
- Conduct scope analysis of assigned work, maintaining schedule adherence and advocating client priorities.
- Initiate continuous improvement initiatives to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high‑quality standards in client deliverables.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, and manage permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
- Be comfortable in both field and office settings; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data.
- Be available for customer‑facing activities and/or meetings on an as‑needed basis.
- 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Background and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Prior knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault‑current calculations.
- Ability to provide reliable transportation, as some customer‑related travel may be anticipated.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Providing estimated costs, developing a bill of materials, and calculating the CIAC.
- Experience with Micro Station for electrical distribution design.
- Experience with work‑management software and job‑estimating software.
- Experience with CAD tools.
