Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer is to be responsible for the development and implementation of all electrical design requirements for the project. The candidate is expected to be familiar with all power generation, distribution and protection systems, as well as client-provided specifications and all applicable industry codes and standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Lead an electrical design team, designing all electrical power generation, distribution, protection and/or related control systems for projects.
- Prepare and review power/control philosophies and drawings.
- Prepare and review electrical generation, distribution, rotating, communication and control equipment specifications and datasheets.
- Prepare, analyse and review electrical models using ETAP, EDSA or SKM.
- Prepare and review electrical system calculations.
- Prepare and review construction drawings depicting equipment locations, wiring, tray layouts, supports, and lighting.
- Prepare and review project/client specifications and requirements; provide alternatives and recommendations as required.
- Prepare and review layouts and plans for electrical buildings and facilities.
- Prepare and review AC and DC load lists from mechanical equipment lists and control systems.
- Prepare and review DC and UPS distribution systems.
- Prepare and review electrical drawings and construction packages.
- Prepare and review Electrical Area Classification drawings.
- Prepare and review test and commissioning procedures.
- Prepare and review electrical fabrication and construction details.
- Provide support for the preparation of Pre‑FEED and FEED cost estimates.
- Provide engineering support to procurement of equipment, skidded packages, and buildings.
- Support and assist field engineering teams during construction, testing and commissioning.
- Test and commission packages and electrical systems.
- International and domestic travel may be required.
Skills and Abilities
)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 5 years of experience designing and implementing electrical power generation and distribution systems for offshore oil and gas, onshore gas processing or hydrocarbon storage and transportation.
- P.E. license preferred.
- Experience working within project-centered multi‑discipline teams.
- Experience preparing project cost estimates.
- Experience preparing specifications for procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of electrical generation, distribution, rotating, communication and control equipment such as generators, VFDs, low‑ and medium‑voltage motor‑control systems, switch gear, integrated motor control center buildings, distributed control systems, PLC panels, etc.
- Knowledge of ANSI/NEMA/NFPA/API/UL/IEEE codes and standards.
- Knowledge of IEC standards and practices.
- Experience leading factory acceptance testing of package equipment.
- Experience providing engineering support to construction, testing, commissioning and startup of electrical facilities.
- Availability to make offshore and other client‑site trips.
- To be considered, candidates residing outside of commuting distance to the office must provide a cover letter regarding their intentions to relocate to the local area and acknowledge that no relocation assistance will be provided. - Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (private or semi‑private office) with occasional travel to onshore/offshore work locations.
- Field duties require outdoor work in a construction‑site atmosphere.
- Interaction with other team members, supervisors and client personnel.
- Working on a construction site or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
- May be required to work at more than one job site in a day and tolerate climate changes.
- May be required to travel out of town on an irregular basis.
- Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.
- Clear communication skills to effectively convey information.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Vision or observational ability to conduct analysis and investigations.
- Manual dexterity to perform routine office duties.
- Personal mobility and reflexes to perform office duties and travel to off‑site locations.
