We are seeking an experienced Sr. Automation Engineer / Systems Integrator based in Lafayette, LA to support instrumentation, automation, and control system projects across industrial facilities.
This is a hands‑on role responsible for the design, programming, documentation, integration, and field support of PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA systems.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial automation and demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation including Scope of Work (SOW) documents and Control Narratives, as well as read and interpret P&IDs, Cause & Effect charts, I&E drawings, and VFD documentation.
This role requires both strong technical depth and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently while supporting multiple projects and clients.
Essential Functions- Design, program, test, and commission PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA systems.
- Develop control system architecture and detailed design documentation.
- Integrate and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and motor control systems.
- Create and develop:
- Scope of Work (SOW) documents
- Control Narratives
- Functional Design Specifications
- I/O lists and instrument indexes
- Cause & Effect matrices
- Interpret and work from P&IDs, control narratives, I&E plans, and VFD documentation.
- Support field installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Specify process instrumentation and recommend control system hardware solutions.
- Develop and maintain complete project documentation packages.
- Troubleshoot existing systems and provide technical support to operations and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain detailed job logs and provide regular progress updates to project managers and leadership.
- Manage workload across multiple projects while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, and internal engineering teams.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in industrial automation design and/or programming.
- Strong experience with PLC platforms (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
- Experience developing HMI and/or SCADA applications.
- Working knowledge of DCS systems.
- Proven ability to develop Scope of Work documents and Control Narratives.
- Strong ability to read and interpret P&IDs and related engineering documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to stand, kneel, and walk for extended periods.
- Duties performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather and elements.
- Must pass background check and pre‑employment/random drug testing.
- Experience may include a combination of work experience and education.
- Must be able to work for any US Employer.
Travel:
Willing and able to travel up to 25%, including overnight travel to customer locations as business needs dictate.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (technical/engineering discipline preferred); equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
