Job Summary:
The Sr. Piping Designer will lead a drafting team responsible for preparing layouts and designs of complex offshore/onshore piping systems utilizing company 2D and 3D modeling software. They may occasionally be called upon to function as a Project Lead or Coordinator on projects.
- Prepare man‑hour estimates, budgets and schedules for the respective discipline.
- Manage project workflow to ensure project completion and adherence to schedules.
- Lead, supervise and mentor the draftspersons assigned to the project.
- Coordinate with the client and engineering to determine and address project priorities.
- Act as principal designer to resolve piping design issues.
- Prepare layouts and overall project execution plans from Scope of Work or verbal instructions with little or no guidance.
- Ensure all drawings comply with client, company and industry drafting and design standards.
- Design and draft clean, effective piping systems that adhere to safety and maintenance specifications.
- Serve periodically as Piping Checker.
- Lead QA/QC for project design.
- Keep the Project Engineer and Project Manager updated on any concerns regarding their assignments.
- Track and report progress for assigned project drawings.
- Create weight and material estimates.
- Perform site and vendor visits as required.
- Carry out other project responsibilities as required.
- Collaborate and communicate with other discipline leads on projects.
Skills and Abilities
)
- Minimum of 10 years of piping layout and design experience in the upstream/downstream oil & gas market.
- Associate degree in drafting and design or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in a lead role supervising drafters and designers.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Advanced knowledge of piping 2D and 3D software (Auto Desk Plant 3D, PDMS, AVEDA E3D, Navisworks).
- Experience designing in E3D using laser scan data.
- Advanced knowledge of P&'s, general arrangements, piping plans, sections, details, pipe supports and isometrics.
- Ability to layout process equipment with nozzle locations and interconnecting piping.
- Field experience in gathering information for retrofit purposes.
- Strong knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API RP 14C, API RP 14E, API Spec 6A, NFPA and OSHA standards.
- Knowledge of AWS welding symbols and AISC manual.
Candidates residing outside of commuting distance to the office must provide a cover letter regarding their intentions to relocate and acknowledge that no relocation assistance will be provided. Candidates without a cover letter will not be screened for the position.
Working Conditions- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (private or semi‑private) but may require occasional travel to off‑site locations.
- Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant or offshore platform atmosphere.
- Ability to work in an offshore environment is required (HUET training required).
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment with other team members, supervisors and client personnel.
- Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
- Must wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
- May be at more than one job site in a day and must tolerate climate changes.
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
- Lift and carry twenty (20) pounds.
- Clear speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permit effective communication.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Clear vision or other observational powers that permit analysis and investigations.
- Manual dexterity sufficient for routine office duties.
- Personal mobility and reflexes sufficient to perform office duties and travel to off‑site locations.
