Job DescriptionThe Ultrasound Tech 3 performs diagnostic cardiac sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate, and record critical physiological, pathological, and anatomical data. Produces ultrasound images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. The ultrasound technologist monitors and ensures the safety of patients and staff. Performs patient screening by using established protocols. Utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and in all functions of the job.
Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Able to evaluate the competency level of others as preceptor. Leads and directs the work of others. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.
Clinical skills:
- Performs high-quality ultrasound examinations in a prudent and efficient manner, maintains examination records, and generates accurate reports for administration and other operating areas as needed.
- Provides compassionate and dignified patient care by assisting in patient transfer to examination area and positioning of table, and by providing care to the patient following procedure completion.
- Assists radiologist with diagnostic interpretation of scans by taking complete accurate history, correctly labeling films, discussing visual findings, reviewing films with radiologist, supplying additional information/films of suspicious areas.
- Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all standard ultrasound equipment and a solid foundation in ultrasound theory.
- Triage requests that all imaging procedures are completed in a timely manner.
- Evaluates patients to ensure that they are examined safely without harm or further injury.
- Checks in-patients' name bands before performing examinations; for outpatients, states patients' complete name clearly.
- Responsible for reviewing exam and protocol revisions as necessary.
Equipment:
- Operates equipment and performs job-related duties in a safe manner.
Documentation/Communication:
- Prepares patients for examination by explaining procedure, providing instructions, and obtaining clinical history and consent.
- Familiar with standard exam protocols designated by Radiologists, and knowledge of support documentation for all procedures. Refers to manuals as necessary.
- Communicates effectively; listens carefully to co-workers, peers, and Director. Acts as a communication link between staff and other care providers.
- Communicates, in a timely manner, supply items to be ordered to the responsible team member.
Other duties as assigned:
- Assists with the interview process for new team members.
- Adheres to hospital policy on the usage of Paid Time Off and Extended Illness Time.
- When requested, adjusts personal schedule to meet department/unit needs.
- Reports to work on time, and if necessary, reports tardiness to the appropriate person.
- Utilizes time to accomplish work in an efficient manner.
- Maintains a professional appearance, according to job requirements, at all times.
- Employee shall conform to regulatory, customer, and organizational requirements.
- Attends all required mandatory educational sessions.
- Responds appropriately to fire, safety, and disaster situations.
- Utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the appropriate manner for optimal personal protection.
- Adheres to infection control practices.
- Has completed required TB skin test(s).
- Assumes personal responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
- Accepts additional work assignments as assigned by supervisor.
- Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service, and Quality.
Experience: 2 Years
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of sonography or completion of an ultrasound program.
License/Cert: American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography Registry, Active and unrestricted A.R.D.M.S certification OR CCI-RCS, 2 Specialty Registries, Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP.
