Job Overview

This role works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings and staff caring for outpatient clinic patients. The position is under the supervision of a Medical Director or approved staff physician and works with PCCs, staff nurses and discharge coordinators to plan, implement and evaluate medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education and discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize approved medical practice processes in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to patient ages.
  • Maintain a continuous quest for improvement in medical practice and patient care outcomes, and may develop research methodology.
  • Provide education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals and the community.
  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy, introducing yourself, explaining services, and communicating effectively.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education
  • Master’s degree in nursing.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
Work Experience
  • Required - None.
  • Preferred - 3 years of related working experience.
Certifications
  • Required - Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist by AACN or ANCC.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.
  • For Physician Assistant candidates:
    Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA certification, BCLS and ACLS certifications, and prescriptive authority per State Board of Medical Examiners.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and other role‑specific software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at departmental and system levels.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between facilities.
  • Flexible work schedule including 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on‑call availability.
Physical & Environmental Demands

Medium work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or light to moderate force continuously. Requires standing for prolonged periods, stooping, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity. Routine duties expose the incumbent to blood, body fluids, tissue, and communicable diseases. Occupational risk for hazardous medications and waste also present. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
