Job Overview
This role administers anesthesia to patients during surgical, obstetrical, and other pain‑producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. The position works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients.
Key Responsibilities- Documents patient procedures and incidents.
- Assesses patients before, during, and after administering anesthesia.
- Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques.
- Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co‑workers, patients, and families.
- Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy respect, introduction style, and communication to patients and families.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Master's degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- None.
- License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
- Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Proficient with Windows‑style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
Medium work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Must stand for prolonged periods. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue; potential occupational risk for hazardous medications and chemicals.
