Job Description

The Registered Nurse provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way, incorporating differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, including patient and family education. Relies on education and training to complete responsibilities within the scope of licensure as a registered nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice and Care Management
    • Performs psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data.
    • Formulates a plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning, and tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs.
    • Participates in the planning of routine transitional health‑care needs (e.g., treatment options, patient placement options, end‑of‑life options).
    • Responds to changes in patient’s needs and provides holistic care using independent clinical judgment based on knowledge drawn from education and experience.
    • Adapts planned educational programs and information to individual patients and families by modifying teaching strategies or content, integrating education during the delivery of patient care, and collaborating with patients/families to identify realistic desired outcomes.
    • Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care: determines immediate priorities and offers solutions for problems.
    • Actively advocates for patient rights, identifies potential conflict, and seeks counsel for resolution.
    • Identifies variances from expected outcomes and evaluates patient outcomes to revise the plan of care.
    • Documents all patient‑care activities as per documentation standards and assists the healthcare team with the documentation process.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Consistently communicates and collaborates with the health‑care team members, patients, and families to maximize patient outcomes.
    • Appropriately delegates patient‑care activities to other health‑care team members and participates in revising staff assignments for maximum productivity.
    • Maintains knowledge regarding unit initiatives and incorporates the outcomes of team/committee work into practice.
    • Participates on unit teams, work groups, and/or committees, anticipates needs, and voluntarily assists others.
  • Quality
    • Demonstrates knowledge of unit‑based quality improvement initiatives.
    • Participates in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery.
    • Incorporates evidence‑based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes.
  • Professional Development
    • Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to health‑care team members, displaying leadership behaviors.
    • Identifies own learning needs based on self‑evaluation and progress made from previous year’s goals.
    • Accountable for all documentation and completion of required continuing education and competencies relevant to the area of practice as defined by clinical management.
    • Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self‑development through lifelong learning.
    • Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor, and demonstrates leadership skills in critical thinking, decision‑making, and problem solving.
  • Other duties
    • Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on values, service, and quality.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Proficient in the English language, with verbal and written communication skills and computer skills.
  • Current Louisiana State license as RN and BLS certification; ACLS and PALS certification within the first 6 months of hire; CPI and NIH Stroke Scale certification within the first year of hire.
