American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of specialty experience and a compact or LA RN license.
Details- Medical Surgical unit with cardiac telemetry focus and med-surg overflow coverage
- Patient population includes chest pain, CAD, PVD, arrhythmias, DM, COPD, PNA, HTN, MI, renal failure, PE, CHF, and GI bleed cases with potential overflow for sepsis, CVA, and COVID+ patients
- 1:6 patient ratio
- Handles pre/post cath lab, PPM/AICD, ablations, post-op CABG, post-op thoracotomy, vascular surgeries, AAA repair, and bedside sheath pulling
- Titrates cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and heparin
- Uses telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, PCAs, epidurals, and wound vacs
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-7:15
- No call requirements
- May float to all other inpatient units
- Cannot guarantee specific scheduling requests such as block scheduling
- Active RN license (Compact or LA) in hand
- BLS required; ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg specialty experience required
- Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
- Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur Evac), high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration preferred
- Experience with feeding tube care, heparin protocols, and IV insulin protocols preferred
- Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response/code teams preferred
- Experience with wound care/wound vac management and isolation precautions/PPE
- Experience with post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, and sheath removal preferred
- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Up-to-date NURSYS report required
- May be assigned to an Emergency Team during declared emergency events, with an expectation to remain onsite or serve as part of a relief team
- Must be willing to work 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually:
Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's - Orientation held five days per week
- Two Manager/Supervisor references (not Charge RNs) required to obtain clearance to start contract, though not required for initial consideration
- Candidates must live more than 65 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Previous permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must be separated from the health system for one full year before returning as a traveler
- All RTO must be listed on the candidate profile and discussed during the interview to avoid offer rescission
