Overview
This position serves as a Coastal Resources Scientist in the Lafayette Regional Office (LRO), Operations Division of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) to support critical ecosystem monitoring and management efforts. The incumbent provides journeyman-level scientific and technical expertise in support of coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection projects. Work is performed as part of a functional unit contributing to the implementation of CPRA’s mission to protect and restore Louisiana’s coast.
A bachelor2s degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field.
Job Duties- Works with Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) data (QA/QC, database management, data analysis and integration into restoration project assessments)
- Develops and implements monitoring plans for coastal restoration projects
- Collects monitoring data including vegetation, surface elevation change and accretion, shoreline change, submerged aquatic vegetation, and hydrology data types
- Manages monitoring data and interacts with CPRAs CIMS database
- Assesses coastal restoration project effectiveness and composes detailed technical reports for stakeholders
- Works with engineers and planners to implement new coastal restoration and flood protection projects
- Operates and maintains boats including shallow draft vessels and airboats

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Coastal Resources Scientist 1, Coastal Resources Scientist 2, or Coastal Resources Scientist 3, depending on level of experience.

Compensation: The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist 3 is $84,136 annually.
There are special bi-weekly entrance rates established for this position:
- Coastal Resources Scientist 1 $ 1,672.80
- Coastal Resources Scientist 2 $ 1,789.60
- Coastal Resources Scientist 3 $ 2,036.80
