Position: MAINTENANCE REPAIRER 2 (LAFAYETTE PARISH)

This position is located in District
03/Gang 701 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Carpenter Foreman. The overall function of this position is to make general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioning/heating systems and other mechanical and related fields such as plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repair. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

  • Performs general carpentry work involved with the repair, alteration, or maintenance of buildings and all related structures.
  • Constructs structures such as tools sheds, house frames, tool buildings and outbuildings. Builds or repairs shelves, cabinets, windows, furniture, concrete forms, trim, ceilings and partitions.
  • Provides and/or assist with general plumbing repairs and installation of new plumbing for all of the District's facilities.
  • Removes and replaces all residential/commercial plumbing fixtures including commodes, faucets, urinals, hot water heaters, water fountains, sinks, P-traps, supply lines, and cut-off valves; repairs above/below ground water, sewer, and gas lines.
  • Provides general electrical maintenance to include the following: replaces light fixtures; changes electrical receptacles; installs fans, window units, and heaters; installs electrical flush valves. All other related activities for installation of appliances.
  • Provides and/or assist with general repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting of air conditioning/heating systems.
  • Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Responsible for routine maintenance and proper care of all equipment and tools used – including table saws, power hand tools, power miters, and related carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tools. Operates trenchers and other rental equipment as needed to perform job functions.
  • May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
