Position: Mobile Diesel Mechanic II - M-F 7am to 5pm

Cox Fleet is a leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. We operate nationwide with 50+ service centers and a 24/7 in-house call center, offering scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair.

Position

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II is responsible for licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, and diagnostics (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic). The technician may perform advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision and will continue to develop additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful technician complies with company policies and meets performance metrics.

DUTIES
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems and components as listed above.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to verify repairs and operation.
  • Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/assess alternatives with sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service truck, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks with effective prioritization and time management.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using company devices and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedules.
  • Maintain productivity and operate within standard repair times where applicable.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates, PO numbers, and RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain the company-issued service truck and perform safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years of related experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical; DOT requirements apply.
  • Current and valid DOT medical card or eligibility to obtain one; if the medical card has four months or less remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
CERTIFICATIONS
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T8 (PMI) as applicable, and ASE 608/609 where relevant.

  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; capable of moderately heavy labor.
