Do you have previous experience with dispatching in the Marine industry? If so, then this may be the career opportunity for you! Our dispatcher position is a 7 on, 7 off schedule from 5pm-5am. We offer a great benefits package, as well, as a superb 401K contribution.
This job is primarily responsible for scheduling, ensuring security, and dispatching inland tug boats moving barges. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, establishing priorities, securing equipment and resources applicable to work order, maintaining records and processing paperwork, providing various reports, and consistent communication with all staff and tugboat personnel. Additionally, this job may dispatch staff in response to incidents and emergency requests from vessels.
In this job, you will:
Actual responsibilities will vary depending on daily needs location(s) supported.
- Ensure daily dispatch logs are kept current and all information is up-to-date; information utilized with customer billing.
- Evaluate situations and take action independently to solve problems.
- Work closely with internal operations to develop logistics solutions for customers.
- Work to keep fleet security a priority.
- Coordinate dock breakdowns and set up with shipyard.
- Coordinate efficient movement of barges in and out of fleets.
- Coordinate logistics of tow building with the arrival of line boats.
- Coordinate boat tows to and from destinations for maximum efficiency.
- Coordinate barge schedules with shipyards and customers.
- Assist management with fleet operations.
- Follow all company policies and procedures as it relates to operational difficulties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Here’s what you’ll need to be considered:
Education
Required – Associate’s Degree in general studies or equivalent experience and training.
Experience
Required – None.
Preferred – Prior dispatch experience and/or related industry experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational, logistical, and analytical skills.
- Ability to use logical thought process to interpret various situations and requests to troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Ability to make independent decisions that affect both company and customer.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paces work environment.
- Ability to work successfully both autonomously and within a team environment.
- Acutely aware of surroundings with ability to quickly adjust to a signal or change in environment.
