DISTRICT 03 – LAFAYETTE MECHANIC SHOP | JOB NUMBER: 03-8998-MEO2H--DS
The overall function of this position is to transport equipment to and from job sites, pick up equipment on the road that has failed to function properly and deliver it to the repair shop. This position is located in District 03, Gang 071, Lafayette, LA, and reports directly to the Equipment Superintendent. The incumbent must be self‑motivated, perform duties repeatedly with or without minimal supervision, and interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise.
The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
- Responsible for safe loading, binding and transporting all department equipment with the District’s lowboy truck/trailers, including bulldozers, tractors, front‑end loaders, backhoes, excavators, track hoes, motor patrols, asphalt pavers, shoulder‑widening machines, milling machines, rollers, mobile cranes, tractor trailers, vans, trucks, etc.
- Performs preventative maintenance on the lowboy and vehicles assigned to self— including oil changes, replacing burnt bulbs, minor adjustments to equipment, and changing tires.
- Transport bridge pilings up to 75 feet in length.
- Transport plastic and concrete barriers with the lowboy.
- Transport portable buildings up to 20 feet wide.
- Wrecker driver/operator for department equipment involved in accidents.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
- Three years of experience in mobile equipment operations.
- License Requirements: A Louisiana Class "A" CDL License.
