waste pro of louisiana is now hiring heavy equipment drivers to haul and dump trailers located at our lafayette division. Must have 3 years or more experience. Apply to join an amazing team with amplified benefits.

summary of position:

operates tractor hauling with the following types of trailers: walking floors, end dump, flatbed, and lowboys. The role entails special routes of transport hauling solid waste or recycling materials from the transfer station to and from landfills, mrfs, mills, or special handling facilities.

essential job functions
  • safely drive truck on route in accordance with smith system driving principles.
  • secure containers by attaching hook to container; use control levers to pull container up on the bed of the truck, secure straps and hand tarp individual containers as necessary.
  • provide a distinguishably different level of service through courteous and expeditious customer service in all aspects of refuse operation to the public and customers.
  • exhibit a positive attitude toward the company, customer, and municipal goals.
  • operate hydraulic and lift equipment on vehicle.
  • perform daily pre and post‑trip inspections as set forth by waste pro procedures and dot guidelines, complete safety lane activity and dvir daily per waste pro safety lane guidelines (inspection under hood, check under carriage, check fluid levels and air tires).
  • maintain clean truck and wash exterior weekly.
  • perform a variety of manual duties in the clean‑up of scattered refuse; move and empty large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
  • prepare, maintain, and submit required company and regulation‑mandated reports and documents.
  • be responsible for all persons working on vehicle during the designated route.
  • comply with all department of transportation and state requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.

  • attend and participate in corporation‑sponsored training courses as assigned.
  • keep up to date on current technology being used by waste pro.
  • perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • may be required to work during emergency situations.
qualifications
  • must have a class a cdl valid for the state of employment with a clean driving record.
  • at least one year of previous experience operating a vehicle requiring a cdl within the past seven years.
  • must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices, and the department of transportation and state requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
  • hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
  • see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • exhibit normal range of body motion.
  • drive a front‑end, side, rear‑end, or roll‑off loading refuse truck, including right‑hand driver’s position on certain equipment, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule.
  • understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • maintain written records and service responses.
  • speak and read english well enough to communicate with customers, co‑workers, dispatch, and supervisors, understand highway and traffic signals, and make legible entries on paperwork.
