Class A CDL Route Driver
Lafayette, LA

About the Role:
The Class A CDL Retail Route Driver plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and safe delivery of goods across designated routes, primarily operating within and around the Angier, NC area. This position requires the driver to manage long-haul and local deliveries efficiently while adhering to all federal and state transportation regulations. The driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in optimal condition, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
Effective communication with dispatchers, customers, and team members is essential to coordinate schedules and resolve any delivery challenges. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to customer satisfaction and the overall success of the logistics operation by ensuring reliable and professional transportation services. This position is a safety-sensitive position and requires a clear mind and diligence. The employee has the responsibility for his/her safety as well as the safety of others.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Valid Class A CDL (self-certified as Non-Excepted Interstate with issuing state).
* Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) report.
* Must be at least 23 years old with 2 years of verifiable full-time tractor-trailer experience,
OR
21 years old with 1 year of tractor-trailer experience, if:
* A graduate of a certified Truck Driving School, or
* 1 year of equivalent Military driving experience.
* Stable employment history.
* Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements
* Frequently lift, pull, or push up to 70 pounds.
* Regularly bend, stoop, twist, shovel, and reach overhead.
* Tolerate exposure to strong odors (e.g., food waste, farm materials).
* Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
* Load, transport, and deliver food waste on intra- and interstate routes (15-25 stops per day).
* Operate combination vehicles (open-top dump trailers) across a regional footprint.
* Drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles in compliance with DOT and all applicable laws.
* Use manual or electric pallet jacks as needed.
* Clean bins and containers with a pressure washer; ensure all client locations are left clean and debris-free.
* Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
* Perform minor repairs on company bins and equipment using basic hand tools.
* Maintain basic truck equipment and ensure vehicle cleanliness.
* Utilize electronic logging devices (ELD) for DOT compliance and other required reporting.
* Accurately complete and submit paperwork (e.g., contamination reports, service tickets, truck maintenance logs).
* Communicate professionally with customers and vendors to support seamless operations.
* Report any service, equipment, or customer issues to the operations team.
* Immediately report all accidents and injuries to the Safety Manager.
* Work flexible hours, up to 60 hours in a 7-day week or 70 hours in 8 days, depending on seasonality.
* Attend weekly safety calls, trainings, or briefings.
* Use a computer and cell phone for training, communication, and expense management.
* Be available for various route assignments, including interstate routes, as needed.

Drivers utilize their knowledge of DOT regulations daily to maintain compliance and avoid violations. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with dispatch and customers, resolving issues, and providing status updates. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with electronic logging devices and GPS systems, enhance route efficiency and record-keeping accuracy.
Additionally, customer service and basic maintenance skills contribute to a smoother delivery process and help maintain vehicle reliability.
