Every square foot of our school was designed to serve the child and the Montessori guides.

We to build a diverse community of learners and to recognize the uniqueness of each child. The Montessori Assistant Guide will work closely with their classroom’s Lead Guide in a prepared environment, as well as working with other members of the Hillside team to support the mission and vision of the school.

Requirements of prospective candidates
  • Is a lifelong learner, driven to pursue personal and professional growth.
  • Has a passion for working with children and understanding the stages of development.
  • Has experience communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Is in alignment with the school's mission and vision statements.
Ideal but not required
  • Has experience working with children in a classroom setting.
  • Holds an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Holds a MACTE Montessori Credential or interest in pursuing training.
  • Has experience working in a Montessori classroom.

This is a ten-month full time position with benefits including health insurance options, retirement plan options, professional development, paid time off, and paid school closures. The daily hours are from 8:00AM to 4:00PM. Teachers report directly to the Head of School.

General Duties
  • The Classroom Assistant shall perform duties faithfully, enthusiastically, and satisfactorily at the School during assigned working hours and during other times as specified below. The Classroom Assistant agrees to devote full time and attention during working hours to duties as a Guide; arrive at the agreed upon time and stay for the duration of designated work hours.
  • The Classroom Assistant will perform duties subject to the general supervision and direction of the Lead Guide, Head of School (HoS), and subject to the overall supervision of the Board of Directors (BoD).
  • The Classroom Assistant will adhere to AMS (American Montessori Society) guidelines and the School’s guidelines and professional standards, for the purpose of maintaining excellence.
  • The Classroom Assistant will complete such reports and maintain such student records as may be reasonably required by the school. Such reports may include daily student attendance and general student activity.
  • On days mutually acceptable to the Classroom Assistant and the School, the Classroom Assistant also agrees:
    • To make available time after normal school hours for staff meetings.
    • To meet with parents for scheduled conferences and be available for communication with parents outside of scheduled conferences in instances that involve the need for direct communication with the Classroom Assistant.
    • To participate in any organized program of parent education as prescribed by the HoS.
    • To attend and participate in events outside of the regular school hours such as fundraisers, PTO nights, Open House, etc.
  • Specific Duties
  • Demonstrate rapport with, and respect and kindness for, all students.
  • Maintain an environment in which the furnishings and materials are complete and correspond to the needs of the students. Develop and implement ways to include the students in caring for the classroom environment (i.e. community contributions chart). Help students to understand the importance of caring for their environment by demonstrating proper and effective methods for carrying out classroom responsibilities. Such responsibilities include dusting shelves and materials, refilling supplies, guiding table-setting, etc.
  • Assist the Lead Guide with overall cleanliness and beauty of the classroom and other utilized areas within the school and school grounds.
