Principal Electrical Engineer
The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design of AC and DC power distribution systems, lighting systems, grounding, paralleling switch gear, standby generators, MV distribution, Building Management Systems (BMS), power systems studies, lightning suppression system, calculations and analysis with primary emphasis on Power Modules, IT Modules, Facilities and Data Centers. The engineer will design to customer specifications and requirements and will support all electrical inquiries and business development activities.
The engineer will provide general electrical configuration designs for commercial and government facilities, data centers, switching centers, power generation and distribution systems, etc. The designer shall develop a detailed drawing package for the integration of all electrical systems. The Electrical Engineer will provide single‑line signal wire diagrams and electrical diagrams that demonstrate integration of UPS power systems, DC power systems, standby generator, grounding, cooling, fire protection, surveillance, BMS, lighting and other equipment in the building.
This individual will coordinate the facility power systems with architectural and mechanical designs, factory and site acceptance testing and commissioning.
- Serve as the lead electrical engineer on assigned projects from proposal development, requirement development to final commissioning stage.
- Design optimal UPS power systems and/or DC power systems based on customer equipment and IT loads.
- Design switch‑gear configurations and control schemes, utilizing PLCs and/or relays, to accomplish automated transfer operations.
- Design ground‑fault protective schemes, including those involving multiple sources.
- Develop Basis of Design philosophy.
- Conduct lighting analysis (interior and exterior) and develop a lighting plan.
- Conduct lightning protection system analysis and design.
- Generate bills of material, and modify standard assemblies as required to satisfy the application.
- Be familiar with Modbus and TCP/IP communication protocols, and RS‑485 and Ethernet interfaces.
- Provide detailed schematic design (SD), detail design (DD) and construction drawing (CD) narratives for electrical design aspects of the solution.
- Lead electrical design from initial concept through design stages until finished 100% design and issue‑for‑construction package.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and external partners—general contractors or architects—to create a construction document set.
- Specify appropriate electrical equipment like UPS, switch‑gear, generator, etc.
- Provide detail sizing analysis of standby emergency generators based on types of loads—capacitance, inductance, motor loads, high/low inertia loads, UPS, lighting, etc.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
- Review and approve electrical product submittals.
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during construction phases.
- Ensure quality control during integration of electrical systems.
- Support on‑site integration efforts.
- Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation and performance of electrical systems.
- Travel to sites for review and work with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits and start‑up as needed.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external customers and partners on activity planning to ensure production needs are met with minimal schedule impact.
