Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. The role supports evidence-based practice, standards of care, and the Wellstar values. The RN upholds the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards from the American Nurses Association, and supports service excellence goals while upholding patient voice and system policies.
CoreResponsibilities And Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care; coordinates care through partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Provides relationship-based patient-centered care aligned with population characteristics, adapting service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
- Partners with the patient and significant others through appropriate communication methods (e.g., bedside shift report; interdisciplinary rounds; just-in-time and planned patient teaching) to keep goals and plans of care patient-centered.
- Practices using current clinical practice standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting the professional care delivery model. This includes diverse interdisciplinary communication, timely documentation, and a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Demonstrates teamwork by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner that supports recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Participates in performance improvement and supports shared governance at all levels, including initiating or leading improvement activities and promoting inter/intra-disciplinary processes.
Professional Development and Initiative
- Completes initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and required education, including population-specific education.
- Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff to ensure a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
Evidence Based Practice and Research
- Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in activities such as value analysis in evaluating patient care products.
- Upholds system policies, procedures, clinical competencies, and regulatory standards (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals, safety absolutes).
- Participates in data collection, raises clinical questions, and uses evidence to address practice questions with appropriate experts and resources.
Resources and Support
- Proactively plans care across the care continuum while delivering direct patient care.
- Participates in developing protocols and procedures with care managers to achieve best-practice outcomes (e.g., reducing readmissions, avoiding adverse events).
- Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
QualificationsRequired Minimum Education
- Associate's Nursing or Diploma (RN) or Bachelor’s Nursing – Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- RN – Registered Nurse (single-state) or RN-COMPACT – multi-state compact
- BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I – Basic Life Support - Instructor
Additional Licenses and Certifications
Required Minimum Experience
- 1 year completion of accredited/approved nursing program with required clinical hours
- 1 year of direct patient care experience – Preferred
Required Minimum Skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Proficient use of technology to support clinical care with basic computer skills
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies decisively, calmly, and respectfully
- Excellent time management and use of evidence and analytical skills with strong critical thinking
