Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

a brief description of the job. The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe care.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and ensures care is individualized.
  • Provides relationship‑based patient‑centered care that is consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Partners with the patient and significant others, using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching); keeps the patient and significant others updated and makes the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care.
  • Practices using current clinical practice standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including timely documentation and respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner and promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities, research utilization, and shared governance at all levels.
Professional Development and Initiative
  • Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students to ensure a qualified workforce and create a healthy work environment.
Evidence Based Practice and Research
  • Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing; participates in activities such as value analysis for evaluating patient care products.
  • Upholds all healthcare system/organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals and Well Star Health Systems' safety absolutes).
  • Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions, consults appropriate experts, and uses resources and evidence to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
  • Proactively plans for the care of patients across the care continuum while providing direct patient care.
  • Participates in developing protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reducing readmission rates, avoidable days, adverse events).
  • Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
Required

Minimum Education
  • Associate’s in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
  • RN – Regulatory Nurse (Single State) required.
  • RN‑COMPACT – RN (Multi‑state Compact) required.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support required.
  • ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support required.
  • BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor required.
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum 1 year direct patient care nursing experience required.
Required Minimum Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; optimize the use of technology to support clinical care; basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment and respond to emergencies in a decisive, composed, and respectful manner.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Practices nursing using evidence and analytical skills, and possesses strong critical thinking skills.
