Position
The City of Laguna Beach is looking for an Accounting Technician (Payroll) in the Finance Division of the Administrative Services Department.
What you'll doAssist in the payroll process for City employees under the Payroll Supervisor. Coordinate daily operations of the City’s full‑cycle payroll system, compile, review, and audit payroll changes for completeness and accuracy, review payroll records for compliance, reconcile California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) reports, verify earnings changes to CalPERS, and document payroll changes in ledgers and master files.
ScheduleOn‑site, 9/80 schedule: 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on alternating Fridays. City Hall closes on alternate Fridays.

High school graduation and college‑level coursework in basic accounting, bookkeeping, or finance. An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting is highly desirable.
ExperienceThree years of full‑time progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a municipal setting; or two years as a City Office Specialist. An additional year of technical and clerical accounting experience, preferably processing accounts payable in a fast‑paced, high‑volume organization, is highly desirable.
