Position: Collection System Maintenance Worker I/Sr.

The District is searching for a qualified applicant for its Maintenance Worker Collections Job Series. We will fill the position at the appropriate job series level based on the selected candidate's qualifications.

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Operations and direct supervision of the Collection System Supervisor, maintains, cleans, and performs minor repairs on the sewer collection system.

Maintenance Worker Collections I:

This is the entry-level classification in the job series. Incumbents work under close supervision as they learn and perform a limited range of tasks. Familiarization with the District's facilities, policies and procedures is required at this level. ($34.70 - $44.42 hourly, DOQ)

Maintenance Worker Collections II:

This is the skilled-level classification in the job series. Incumbents perform the full range of skilled duties. Assignments may encompass a variety of tasks, and may seldom require detailed instructions. Must exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines and show initiative. ($39.01 - $49.94 hourly, DOQ)

Maintenance Worker Collections III:

This is the journey-level classification in the job series. Incumbents perform the more complex assignments and specialized tasks in the crew, requiring greater knowledge of crew responsibilities and District programs gained through experience and/or training and education. Incumbents must have the ability to train and lead staff. Assignments are varied and require sound independent judgment and initiative. ($43.90 - $56.20 hourly, DOQ)

Senior Maintenance Worker Collections:

This is the advanced journey-level, working-lead class in the job series. Incumbents provide first-line direction, technical assistance and training to the assigned crew. Incumbents are responsible for assisting the Supervisor in formulating and developing crew goals and objectives, supervising assigned personnel and directing day-to-day activities. Duties and responsibilities are carried out with considerable independence within the framework of established policies and procedures.

The work of this class involves accountability and decision-making responsibilities. ($49.39 - $63.22 hourly, DOQ)

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.

Maintenance Worker Collections I:

Assist with the operation and maintenance of the line-cleaning equipment, along with other related sewer-cleaning equipment.

Assist with the cleaning of sewer lines, manholes, and wet wells; assist with minor field maintenance of equipment, sewer lines, and manholes; assist with wash-downs and the vacuuming of foreign debris from work sites.

Capable of operating a variety of small equipment, including generators, gas detectors, portable pumps, ventilating fans, and common hand and power tools.

Responsible for setting traffic control, following proper safety procedures, reading and accurately interpreting District sectional maps.

Ability to utilize computerized maintenance and inspection management software to accurately log asset condition assessments and maintenance activities.

Assist with customer complaints regarding sewer odors, blockages, potential line breaks, and manhole problems; provide recommendations to the Collection System Supervisor to address problems.

Able to properly handle and apply chemicals used within the collections system.

Ability to successfully accomplish standard operating procedures as assigned by Supervisor.

Work varying shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and respond to call backs; ability to perform standby duties as assigned within 18 months.

Respond to emergencies during and after work hours consistent with the Incident Command System (ICS), Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS), and National Incident Management Systems (NIMS).

Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Worker Collections II:

Ability to perform essential functions of a Maintenance Worker Collections I.

Assist with confined space team.

Ability to assist in training of Maintenance Worker I.

Ability to operate the District's CCTV equipment.

Maintenance Worker Collections III:

Ability to perform essential functions of a Maintenance Worker Collections II.

Train Maintenance Workers I and II.

Ability to operate and make minor repairs to the District's CCTV equipment.

Responsible for maintenance schedules of operation and collection system equipment.

Capable of planning daily work assignments for maximum efficiency.

Senior Maintenance Worker Collections:

Ability to perform essential functions of a Maintenance Worker Collections III.

Train Maintenance Workers I, II, and III.
