The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom.
Minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position (except designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions) is a Bachelor's Degree.
If hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license and must enroll in a Program to continue employment. Within each year of employment, you must actively pursue meeting Hawaii licensing requirements set by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) and ensure your enrolled program is aligned with your teaching line.
Upon hire, you must have a valid Hawaii teaching license or an Emergency Hire Permit.
