Position Overview
Duke Energy’s Telecom Department is seeking a Power/RF Engineer & Implementation Coordinator to support telecommunications power infrastructure, RF system design, implementation coordination, and field execution. This role requires hands‑on experience with DC/AC power systems, licensed and unlicensed radio systems, RF link planning, detailed work package development, vendor oversight, employee coordination, change management, purchasing request support, and implementation oversight from planning through completion.
Key Responsibilities- Create step‑by‑step job packages and installation procedures for field technicians.
- Conduct site visits to assess power needs and troubleshoot issues.
- Design telecom power solutions, including DC plants, inverters, and battery backup systems.
- Develop RF link plans for licensed and unlicensed radio deployments.
- Design and support Cambium broadband wireless platforms, including PTP, PMP, ePMP, cn Maestro, antenna alignment, spectrum planning, and interference mitigation.
- Design and support Nokia 9500 MPR microwave transport platforms, formerly Alcatel-Lucent 9500 MPR, including radio configuration, licensed links, path planning, and channel planning.
- Serve as Implementation Coordinator for telecom projects, aligning vendors, employees, field readiness, schedules, and execution milestones.
- Track implementation progress, resolve coordination issues, and communicate status, risks, and next steps to stakeholders.
- Support change management and purchasing requests for telecom projects.
- Support power equipment installation and commissioning at telecom sites.
- Create technical documentation, diagrams, and schematics.
- Evaluate AC panels, breakers, and power distribution systems.
- Associate’s degree.
- Minimum 2 years related work experience.
- In lieu of Associate’s degree, High School/GED and 5 years related work experience.
- Previous Duke Energy experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Experience creating detailed job packages and technician work instructions.

VAC power systems. - Hands‑on experience with telecom DC power plants (e.g., Eltek, Vertiv).
- Knowledge of DC battery backup systems in telecom environments.
- Knowledge of inverter systems and operation.
- Knowledge of rectifiers and AC‑to‑DC conversion.
- Familiarity with Battery Monitoring Systems and integration.
- Experience with AC panels, breakers, and distribution systems.
- Experience with RF link planning, path analysis, and licensed and unlicensed radio design.
- Experience with Cambium broadband wireless platforms (PTP 450, PTP 670/700, PMP 450, ePMP, cn Maestro).
- Experience with Nokia 9500 MPR microwave transport platforms.
- Experience coordinating internal teams, vendors, field crews, and project stakeholders as an Implementation Coordinator.
- Ability to track implementation schedules, manage coordination issues, and communicate project status and risks.
- Knowledge of change management and purchasing request workflows.
- Experience using JIRA to track tasks, project status, risks, and implementation activities.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple site locations.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Experience in the utility or telecommunications industry.
- Knowledge of NEC, NESC, and telecommunications industry standards.
- Experience coordinating telecom implementation work in utility, field operations, or network delivery environments.
- Completion of Duke Energy safety training upon hire.
- Adherence to all site‑specific safety protocols and PPE requirements.
Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. Field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location. Primarily office, with some plan and substation visits that require PPE.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and outdoor environments.
