McNeese State University invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Kinesiology in the H.C. Drew School of Kinesiology in the Burton College of Education. This is a full time, 9-month, unclassified tenure-track position. The appointment is available August (Fall) 2026 semester.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Kinesiology is responsible for teaching 12 credit hours of undergraduate and graduate courses that prepare students for careers in exercise physiology, sport management, strength and conditioning, and related allied health professions. This faculty member will collaborate with colleagues, students, and community partners to support high-quality teaching, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities include advising undergraduate and graduate students across two to four concentrations within the Department of Kinesiology;

serving on departmental, college, and university committees; and actively participating in student recruitment activities throughout the academic year. The Assistant Professor is also expected to engage in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge and expertise in the discipline, regardless of certification or licensure status.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Kinesiology or closely related field.
  • Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to recruit, retain, and advise undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues, staff, students, and/or community partners.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to scholarly activity and professional development.

Preferred:

  • Higher education teaching experience.
  • Current professional certifications relevant to the discipline.
  • Record of scholarly publications, presentations, or externally funded research.
  • Experience using learning management systems (e.g. Canvas) and instructional technology.
  • Experience in collaborating with schools, healthcare organizations, athletic organizations, or community partners.
  • Experience with operating and/or managing an Exercise Science or Human Performance Laboratory.

Note:

Applicants who do not hold a terminal degree but possess a master's degree in a related field may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor in a non-tenure-track, nine-month position with a lower salary.
