Position Duties/ResponsibilitiesAssistant Professors are responsible for teaching 12 hours of coursework, advising, supporting various college initiatives including district partnerships, and completing other duties as assigned. Additionally, the assistant professor will perform the following responsibilities of a site coordinator: (1) the liaison between the university and partner school districts, (2) an instructor for college courses and mentor teacher trainings, and (3) an instructional coach for teacher candidates.
The assistant professor will also collaborate and work closely with the Burton College of Education Accreditation Specialist on major assessment data collection and analysis requirements to ensure continued national accreditation.
The Assistant Professor will work closely with:
- Burton College of Education Accreditation Specialist, on major assessment data collection and analysis requirements for national accreditation.
- Team Lead for Site Coordinators, to be trained as a site coordinator. Site coordinators serve three major roles. They serve as (1) the liaison between the university and school district, (2) instructors for college courses and mentor teacher trainings, and (3) instructional coaches for the teacher candidates.
Required:
- Earned a doctorate in education in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education or Curriculum and Instruction at the time of appointment
- Valid Teaching License including early childhood certification, grades Pk-3, Elementary Education, grades 1-5 or a Secondary Education Content, grades 6-12
- 3-to-5 years of early childhood, elementary, or secondary teaching experience
- Knowledge of and experience with Common Core State Standards or equivalent
- Experience working with high-quality curriculum including mathematics
- Evidence of application of technology in the classroom
- Experience working with high needs students and/or traditionally underserved populations of students
- Experience with developing high-quality teachers/teacher candidates
- Mentor Teacher Certified or willing to complete Mentor Teacher certification within first year employed. This certification is required to fulfill the site coordinator portion of the job description.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated experience with educational technology and/or relevant educational technology certifications or credentials.
- Evidence of knowledge and implementation of co-teaching coaching practices including providing quality verbal and written academic feedback
- Evidence in supporting teachers/teacher candidates with implementing high-quality curriculum
- Evidence of leadership in professional development
- Experience with data-driven instructional decision making
- University teaching experience
- Knowledge of standard requirements:
Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC), Louisiana Teacher Preparation Competencies, and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Standards, High Leverage Practices (HLP) - Evidence of collaboration with stakeholders, such as students, teachers, and districts/parishes.
