DISTRICT 07 - Unit 247 – Jennings Construction

The purpose of this position is to plan, direct and coordinate all activities for a construction unit which includes providing supervision, inspection and survey activities for all types of major complex highway and bridge construction projects and ensuring FHWA and DOTD policies and procedures are followed. This position is located in the District 07 Unit 247 Jennings Construction Office of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Engineer 8/Construction Engineer.

We are looking for an Engineer 6 that is self‑motivated, able to perform tasks with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. As an Engineer 6, you will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:

• Two years of licensed engineering experience
• Six years of professional engineering experience

Experience Substitutions:

• A master’s degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
• A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
• Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
• There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
• Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
• Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET‑accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer’s license will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
• Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

• Supervises and trains a staff of engineers and engineering technicians by planning, directing and coordinating all engineering activities for a construction unit.
• Consults with contractors on a daily basis on issues such as project progress, plan changes, phasing of work and traffic control.
• Approves and monitors erosion control plans. Monitors hazardous waste removal. Approves utility relocation invoices. Enforces traffic control requirements on construction projects.
• Develops and writes change orders to solve complex problems such as design errors, construction problems, and environmental concerns.

This position will work 40 hours per week. Schedule can be discussed.

Compensation:
This position receives a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $3,316.00/biweekly.
