Overview
This position is for DISTRICT 07 - Unit 247 – Jennings Construction. The purpose of this role is to plan, direct and coordinate all activities for a construction unit, including supervision, inspection and survey activities for major complex highway and bridge construction projects, and to ensure FHWA and DOTD policies and procedures are followed.
Location:
District 07 Unit 247 Jennings Construction Office of the Department of Transportation and Development. Reports directly to Engineer 8/Construction Engineer. The organization seeks an Engineer 6 who is self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision, and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. As an Engineer 6, you will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate task performance.
- Supervise and train a staff of engineers and engineering technicians by planning, directing and coordinating all engineering activities for a construction unit.
- Consult with contractors on a daily basis on issues such as project progress, plan changes, phasing of work and traffic control.
- Approve and monitor erosion control plans; monitor hazardous waste removal; approve utility relocation invoices; enforce traffic control requirements on construction projects.
- Develop and write change orders to resolve complex problems such as design errors, construction problems, and environmental concerns.
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
- Two years of licensed engineering experience; or
- Six years of professional engineering experience.
Experience Substitutions:
- A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
- A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
- Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
- There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
Notes:
- Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
- Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
- Applications from non-Louisiana license holders may be considered; such applicants must obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
