Description Of Position

SUPERVISION:

Directly supervised by Registered Nurse Preceptor. Reports to Intern Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Under Direct RN Supervision
  • May perform tasks and procedures for which they have received proper instruction through their nursing program.
  • Must be comfortable using computers and various software applications.
  • Conducts accurate patient assessments and interventions, reports significant findings, and responds appropriately.
  • Administers medications and treatments and documents the patient’s response.
  • Updates nursing care plans according to hospital guidelines.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, and patient transfers.
  • Responds to call lights and supports patients with daily living activities.
  • Completes tasks included on the RN Student Intern Skills List and adapts care to the needs of the specific patient population.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
  • Maintains awareness of and adheres to all applicable regulatory, legal, and accreditation standards.
  • Follows the organization’s Compliance & Privacy policies and promptly reports concerns related to ethics, safety, privacy, or regulatory compliance.

Education And Work Experience
  • Must be currently enrolled in good standing in an approved Associate, Bachelor’s, or Diploma nursing clinical program or have graduated from one within the last 12 months after an initial unsuccessful NCLEX RN attempt.
  • Must have finished at least one clinical rotation in a hospital setting or be within 12 months of their first unsuccessful NCLEX RN examination.
  • Must hold a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Needs solid interpersonal and organizational skills.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for sustained periods, bending and stooping, and some lifting of 50-100 pounds at a time.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Many nursing skills require acute hearing ability, i.e. listening with stethoscope to breath sounds and heart sounds.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
