The Safety Technician is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment within a fabrication shop. This position supports the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company standards. The Safety Technician conducts inspections, identifies hazards, investigates incidents, delivers safety training, and works closely with supervisors and employees to prevent accidents and injuries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of fabrication shop areas, equipment, tools, and work practices.
  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions to eliminate or reduce risks.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Monitor welding, cutting, grinding, painting, lifting, rigging, and confined space activities for safe work practices.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Conduct incident, near‑miss, and injury investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, safety records, inspection reports, and training documentation.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee safety training, orientations, and toolbox talks.
  • Verify the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, fall protection, respiratory protection, and hazard communication programs.
  • Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities.
  • Monitor contractor safety compliance while on company premises.
  • Track corrective actions and follow up to ensure timely completion.
  • Assist management with safety audits, risk assessments, and regulatory inspections.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through employee engagement and coaching.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of safety experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 30‑Hour General Industry Certification
  • Certified Safety Technician (STSC), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), or related certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes including welding, machining, grinding, and material handling strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of PPE requirements and hazard control methods.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to present safety training to employees at all organizational levels.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing and shop environments with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, hearing protection, and steel‑toed boots.

The Safety Technician works primarily in an active fabrication and manufacturing environment and may spend significant time on the shop floor conducting inspections, observing work activities, and interacting with employees. Occasional travel to job sites, customer locations, or training events may be required.
