Automotive Specialist Convent, Louisiana

St. James Parish Government is hiring for - Automotive Specialist - under the Department of Human Resources.

JOB FUNCTION: The Transit automotive specialist will be responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of all buses in fleet. This position is classified as non-essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters and non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in this position. The absence of specific duties does not exclude those tasks if they are similar, related, or logical assignments of the position.

• Weekly cleaning of the exterior of each bus
• Weekly cleaning of the interior of each bus, including seats, floors, windows, mirrors, etc.
• Maintaining cleanliness of the shop, such as organizing supplies and removing trash or debris
• Maintaining supply and inventory at Transit Shop
• Assisting with weekly bus inspections when needed
• Tracking weekly schedules for each unit and reporting to management if drivers are not coming for inspections/cleaning
• Transporting vehicles when needed for preventive maintenance or repairs
• Other duties as assigned

MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License (class “E”) and have an acceptable driving record.

OTHER

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of operating procedures and maintenance of equipment operated.

· General knowledge of hazards and safety rules related to equipment operation.

· Working knowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to equipment operated.

· Ability to perform or assist in minor maintenance and repair of equipment.

· Ability to perform physical labor required by the position.

· Ability to identify operating problems of equipment assigned.
