Construction Field Crew Member / Heavy Equipment Operator Charles Peeler ConstructionLocation:
Lake City, Florida Pay: $16.00–$26.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability
Charles Peeler Construction is seeking dependable, hardworking individuals to join our field operations team.
CPC performs a variety of site-development and construction work, including site preparation, land clearing, grading, excavation, concrete work, paving, drainage, and heavy-equipment operation. Because our crews work across multiple types of projects, we are looking for versatile team members who are willing to contribute wherever needed.
We welcome applicants at all experience levels, including experienced equipment operators and skilled tradespeople, as well as dependable entry-level candidates who are willing to learn.
Areas of Experience- Site preparation and land clearing
- Grading and dirt work
- Excavation and trenching
- Heavy-equipment operation
- Concrete placement and finishing
- Asphalt and paving work
- Drainage and underground utility work
- General construction and jobsite support
- Dump-truck or CDL driving
Applicants are not required to have experience in every area. Candidates with experience across multiple types of construction work are strongly encouraged to apply.
Position Responsibilities- Assist with daily site-preparation and construction activities
- Operate tools and equipment safely and responsibly
- Support grading, excavation, concrete, paving, drainage, and related field work
- Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials
- Complete assigned work according to project plans and supervisor direction
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
- Perform basic equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns
- Work cooperatively with field supervisors, operators, drivers, and crew members
- Follow CPC safety procedures, workplace policies, and operating standards
- Be willing to learn new equipment, tasks, and areas of construction
- Assist outside a single specialty when required by project or crew needs
- Valid driver’s license required
- Reliable transportation to Charles Peeler Construction required
- CDL , but not required unless the employee will be assigned to drive a commercial dump truck
- Ability to report to work consistently and on time
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
- Ability to perform physical construction work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and working around equipment
- Willingness to work as part of a team and contribute wherever needed
- Commitment to safety, quality work, and responsible equipment use
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members
Experienced applicants should be prepared to discuss the equipment they have operated and the types of construction projects they have completed.
Employment is subject to CPC’s applicable hiring, driving, drug-testing, safety, and workplace requirements.
ScheduleCPC generally operates using one of the following schedules, depending on project needs:
- Five 8-hour workdays
- Four 10-hour workdays, with Fridays off
- Approved overtime when required by project schedules
Schedules may vary based on weather, workload, project deadlines, and operational needs.
Employees report to Charles Peeler Construction at the beginning of the workday and travel to jobsites in CPC work trucks or dump trucks.
Compensation- $16.00–$24.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability
- Entry-level candidates with limited construction experience will generally begin toward the lower end of the range
- Experienced field workers and equipment operators will be considered for compensation based on their applicable skills
- Higher compensation may be considered for exceptional qualifications, including advanced equipment operation, finish-grading ability, CDL credentials, leadership experience, or demonstrated proficiency across multiple areas of CPC’s work
- Position includes an introductory probationary period
