The Work You Will DoMaterials Manager – Lab Qualification/District Two – Materials and Research
Responsibilities- Supervises employees: communicate, motivate, train, evaluate, plan, and direct work; secure resources; ensure meeting quality and quantity requirements; focus employees on the Department’s mission.
- Evaluate projects/processes to determine performance status; recommend improvements; notify stakeholders of changes; ensure consistency, predictability, and repeatability.
- Perform Independent Assurance evaluations per Department procedures and the Federal Aid Policy Guide; document and report findings.
- Inspect laboratories for compliance with Department contracts and procedural documents; review records, procedures, equipment, and personnel; provide feedback and technical assistance; document and report findings; conduct follow‑up inspections.
- Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance; take timely action to correct errors; notify stakeholders of errors, failures, or negative trends.
- Provide materials‑related technical support to customers; meet customer needs in a timely manner; provide guidance and training.
- Review Quality Control plans, construction plans, specifications, procedures, and other documents; provide clear comments; offer solutions when objections arise.
- Concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of Materials‑Laboratory Inspection & Qualification.
- Engineering design, construction, production, and/or operations.
- Using engineering tools, equipment, and/or instruments.
- Operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Analyzing and interpreting engineering data.
- Solving engineering problems.
- Performing technical engineering inspections.
- Applying engineering quantitative techniques.
- Planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments.
- Communicating engineering information effectively.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Lifting 50 pounds and moving around uneven terrain without assistance.
- Supervising people.
Must possess or obtain and maintain one of the following:
Asphalt Plant Level I;
Aggregate Testing Technician; ACI Concrete Lab Technician Level I; or Aggregate Base Testing Technician;
Limerock Bearing Ratio (L ) Technician. Must pass or have passed Construction Math and Contract Plans Reading Self‑Study examinations. Position must respond before, during, and after emergency situations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience using engineering or manufacturing tools, equipment, and/or instruments.
- Prior experience operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheets, and/or database applications.
