Assistant Chief Nurse, Geriatric and Extended Care

The Assistant Chief Nurse, Geriatric and Extended Care, has substantial and continuing responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling system-wide issues. This includes but is not limited to managing day-to-day operations of the Gainesville and Lake City Community Living Centers and Palliative Care Unit. The Assistant Chief Nurse is responsible for responding to internal and external communications, maintaining knowledge of and communicating standards of practice, care, and accreditation standards, coordinating Nursing Service efforts to meet those standards, developing systems to enhance overall operations, resource utilization, and communication within and between facilities.

• Manages nursing personnel in the Geriatrics and Extended Care Programs in both Lake City and Gainesville.
• Serves as a resource to nurses under the supervision of the Chief Nurse of Geriatrics and Extended Care.
• Ensures the delivery of nursing care to patients in the Geriatrics and Extended Care programs.
• Manages resources in all programs that fall under the umbrella of Geriatrics and Extended Care Nursing.
• Provides leadership in maintaining standards of nursing in accordance with System and Nursing Service Policies, guidelines of the Department of Veteran Affairs, accrediting organizations and national nursing organizations.
• Represents the Chief Nurse of Geriatrics and Extended Care on service and system committees/task forces for administrative and clinical issues.
• Collaborates with the Chief Nurse Geriatrics and Extended Care across the health care system, and Service Chiefs to develop goals and objectives that support the strategic plan, meet the needs of veteran patients, satisfy staff, and result in positive clinical and administrative outcomes.
• Demonstrates leadership at the service and/or hospital level, including functioning as a nursing leader with the ability to delegate appropriately.
• Performs administrative functions to assist the Associate Chief Nurse (ACN), which include but are not limited to educational programs, medicine specialty, procedural areas, etc.
• Provides leadership in determining the allocation of resources based on patient care systems that produce high-quality outcomes.

Pay:
