Where you will work:
District Two – Lake City Maintenance, 710 NW Lake Jeffery Road, Suite #101, Lake City, Florida 32055

• Operate a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment after obtaining required CDL instructional permit or license, including backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck.
• Perform pre‑trip inspection and minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment, and clean and wash equipment.
• Use hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
• Perform independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision.
• Perform rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
• Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).

Knowledge of

• Typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques.

Skills in

• Operating a variety of hand and power tools.
• Operating and performing pre‑trip inspection or minor maintenance on vehicles and/or mechanized equipment.

Ability to

• Read and understand job‑related materials and fill out reports and forms.
• Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures.
• Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• L lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
• Work outdoors in various weather, terrains and heights or in high volume traffic.
• Stand for an extended period of time.
• Operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment.

• Respond to emergencies and be “on call” (24‑hour duty) when necessary.
• Possess a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Instructional Permit at time of hire; obtain a valid Class “B” CDL with air brakes within 10 months.
• When on duty, be ready to operate a CMV consistent with the type of CDL required, or perform routine CMV safety‑sensitive functions.
• Work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
• Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.
• Respond before, during, and following emergency situations.

• Valid Class “B” CDL Instructional Permit at time of hire; obtain a Class “B” CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.

This position requires a valid Class “B” CDL with an acceptable driving record. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

• Three or more moving violations in the past three years that accumulate three or more points per violation.
• Any two convictions of reckless driving in the past three years.
• A suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three years.
• A suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past four years.

Applicants hired for this position with a Class “B” CDL Instructional Permit will attend CDL training and must pass the licensing test and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months after appointment.
