If You Like Variety, Home Health Is Hard to Beat. One patient is recovering from a stroke and relearning how to get dressed. Your next is rebuilding strength after a hospitalization. Another needs to figure out how to safely shower without relying on their spouse. Later that afternoon, you're working with someone on upper-extremity function so they can prepare their own meals again.

Different patients. Different homes. Different challenges. Different goals. That's a day in home health Occupational Therapy. As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with Home Health Care, Inc., you won't spend your entire day inside the same building waiting for the next patient to come through the door. You'll go to them. Trade the Same Four Walls for a Career in the Field Some clinicians love the predictability of working in one facility.

Others eventually start feeling boxed in by it. If you're ready for a workday with more movement, independence, and variety, home health gives you the opportunity to take your COTA skills into the community. You'll travel between patients throughout your assigned territory, provide one‑on‑one treatment, collaborate with your supervising Occupational Therapist, and independently manage your day in the field. Your car becomes the space between appointments.

Then you walk through the next front door and your complete attention shifts to one patient. One License. A Lot of Different Ways to Use It. Occupational Therapy is incredibly broad. Home health lets you use that. Depending on your patient, you may work on:
Dressing and grooming Bathing and shower safety Toileting routines Meal preparation Upper‑extremity strength and function Fine motor coordination Functional mobility Energy conservation Adaptive techniques Compensatory strategies Home exercise programs Safe use of adaptive equipment Caregiver education Returning to meaningful daily routines Tomorrow's caseload may look completely different. That's the point. You Get One Patient at a Time Variety doesn't have to mean chaos.

When you arrive at a patient's home, you're there for them. You're not simultaneously keeping an eye on another treatment table. You're not wondering whether your next patient has already checked in. You're not trying to divide your attention between several people. For that visit, you have one patient and one plan of care. Treat. Educate. Observe. Document. Communicate with the OT when needed.

Then head to your next visit. For COTAs who enjoy independence but still want strong clinical support, it can be a completely different way to experience the profession.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide one‑on‑one Occupational Therapy treatments in patients' homes
  • Carry out individualized treatment plans established by the OT
  • Help patients improve activities of daily living
