The PositionWESA is seeking an Engineering Intern to support the Engineering Department in the planning, design, and construction of water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure projects. This role provides hands‑on experience in municipal utility engineering, including exposure to hydraulic analysis, GIS, and capital project delivery. This internship is a part‑time position available year‑round with flexible hours, not to exceed a yearly total of 999 hours or a maximum term of 12 months, paid at $20.00 per hour.
Responsibilities- Assist with preparation of engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
- Support design and analysis of water distribution, wastewater collection, & recycled water systems
- Perform basic engineering calculations and assist with hydraulic modeling and data analysis
- Review plans and submittals for compliance with District standards and regulatory requirements
- Participate in field inspections of construction projects to ensure quality control and adherence to plans and specifications.
- Provide GIS support, mapping, and data management
- Develop figures and exhibits using CAD and GIS tools
- Assist with processing utility information requests and record drawings
- Conduct research, data collection, and technical investigations
- Provide general administrative and engineering support as needed
- Currently pursuing or recent completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant coursework or equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License
- Familiarity with water/wastewater systems & engineering principles (hydraulics, fluid mechanics)
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS) and/or CAD (AutoCAD/Civil3D)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills
- CalPERS Retirement is provided using the 2% at age 62 formula for "New/PEPRA" Members.
- Flexible Work Schedule (Max 30 Hours per Week)
- Stipend $20 per hour
