Tax Staff - Public

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Tax Staff team member to join a public accounting team in California. This role blends tax preparation, financial statement work, and direct client interaction, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical accounting and relationship-based service. The position requires a strong in-office presence during peak tax season to support client needs, with added schedule flexibility available outside of busy periods.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and review financial statements, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and record adjusting journal entries to maintain accurate reporting.

- Translate client financial records into complete and accurate tax filings for S corporations, partnerships, and related entities.

- Support tax compliance activities by preparing returns, researching applicable tax rules, and applying current regulations to client situations.

- Respond to client questions by phone and in person, providing clear guidance and timely follow-up throughout the engagement process.

- Manage sales tax-related tasks and assist with a range of accounting assignments for business clients.

- Collaborate with managers and other accounting staff on assigned engagements, priorities, and deliverables during the tax cycle.

- Maintain organized documentation within accounting and tax software platforms to support efficient preparation, review, and compliance workflows. Requirements

- Experience with full-cycle accounting, including financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, and adjusting journal entries.

- Working knowledge of tax preparation for business entities such as S corporations and partnerships, or the ability to learn quickly in a public accounting environment.

- Familiarity with sales tax concepts and general tax compliance responsibilities.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to interact directly with clients.

- Ability to work on-site in Lake Forest, California during tax season to support client calls and team needs.

- Proficiency with accounting and tax software, including tools such as Case Ware, CCH Intelli Connect, CCH Pro System Fx, and related systems.

- Understanding of accounting functions, financial statement reporting, compliance, and audit-related support activities.
