Senior Test Engineer I, Multi-technology Product Test
Location:
Lake Forest, CA. This is an on‑site position.
As a Senior Systems Test Engineer within the Test Management Group, you will lead Verification and Validation (V&V) activities for Safety and Critical Control products throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a Senior Systems Test Engineer within the Test Management Group, supporting V&V activities for Safety and Critical Control products throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Drive V&V activities as an active member of Agile project teams, from initial planning through formal product release.
- Plan, lead, manage, and execute Verification and Validation activities for complex development projects involving hardware, embedded software, and application software.
- Collaborate with global project teams, V&V teams, and external partners to deliver high‑quality products while maintaining a zero‑defect mindset.
- Support efforts to minimize time‑to‑market while maximizing product quality and reliability.
- Debug software and firmware products through systematic testing methodologies.
- Develop, maintain, modify, and execute comprehensive software test plans.
- Create, review, and analyze test standards, protocols, and procedures.
- Maintain detailed test documentation and results to support software troubleshooting, debugging, and product improvements.
- Analyze test outcomes to validate existing functionality and recommend corrective actions when required.
- Partner with R&D Development Engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical input and feedback for evaluations of programming languages, systems, and computational software.
- Ensure high‑quality integration of software with scientific computation, data acquisition, and processing systems.
- Apply and maintain company quality standards across all testing and validation activities.
- B.S. in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years’ experience in Verification and Validation of PLC, DCS, Medical device or embedded systems and/or PC applications.
- IEC 61508 functional safety certification / verification and validation (V&V) processes in strict accordance with the IEEE 1012 standard; programming experience in Python with automation framework an added advantage.
- Extensive expertise in PLC system testing, including validation of Input/Output modules, PLC programming, and communication verification across industrial protocols such as Modbus TCP, HART, and OPC UA.
- Experience with advanced automated and system‑level testing methodologies, functional, safety, and regulatory standards compliance, independent prioritization, coaching, and handling escalated technical challenges.
- Experience with basic Lab equipment such as scopes, DMMs, AC/DC power supplies, logic analyzers, function generators, etc.
- Experience with formal software test development techniques, configuration management tools (e.g., TFS, ADO, Jira), requirements traceability tools (e.g., DOORS, JAMA), software analysis tools (e.g., Klocwork, QAC), and unit test tools (e.g., Vector CAST).
- Experience in writing formal Verification and Validation planning documentation, test procedures, descriptions, and reports.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Self‑starter, team player, multi‑tasking, good time‑management skills, and ability to function across organizational boundaries.
This role reports to the Software QA Engineer Technical Manager.
Compensation & BenefitsExpected compensation range: $101,600–$152,400 USD per year, including base pay and short‑term incentive. This applies to U.S. candidates. Pay is determined by performance, knowledge, job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
