Lake Forest High School is seeking a Fall Play Costume Designer - "The Outsiders"
Description: The Costume Designer for Theater Productions collaborates with the other members of the show's creative team overseeing all aspects of the theatrical production that involves costumes for the cast (including hair, makeup, accessories, and wearable props) and ensuring the quality and integrity of the costumes during show productions. The fall play will run from August 31, 2026 - October 19, 2026.
GeneralDuties
- Collaborates with the creative team to develop the overall vision of the show and determine the mood and theme.
- Collaborates with the director(s) and tech director to plan all costume elements of the show (including hair, makeup, jewelry, and wearable props).
- Oversees the correct and appropriate use of the costume budget.
- Attends play/musical rehearsals, as needed, as well as all dress rehearsal performances and strike.
- Oversees the measurements of cast members to create, rent, purchase, or use existing costumes.
- Plans changes during production and implements costumes.
- Handles any emergency costume issues during performances.
- Maintains and organizes the costume storage, makeup, and dressing rooms.
- Provides supervision and safety of students, materials, equipment and facilities during all rehearsals, performances, and meetings.
- Oversees cleaning and restocking of costumes, jewelry, hair, makeup, and wearable props after each show.
- Maintains positive relationships with students, supports our diverse populations, and interacts with students and adults in a respectful manner.
- Communicates and holds students accountable to a standard of expected behavior.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned by administration.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledgeable in sewing and makeup artistry for Theater productions.
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of theater, including design, lighting, sound, costume, hair, and make up technique.
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
- Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
- Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
- Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
The fall play will run from August 31, 2026 - October 19, 2026. Work hours for this position will vary.
