Overview

The Early Childhood Dance Instructor is responsible for planning and leading engaging and age-appropriate dance classes and camps for children ages 2 to 7. This position requires prior experience teaching dance, particularly to young children. The instructor must be capable of teaching styles including Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, and Combination classes in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate manner.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement skill-appropriate lesson plans that follow a logical progression.
  • Provide clear information to students and families about class structure and expectations.
  • Create a fun, inclusive, and safe learning environment for students to explore dance.
  • Take and maintain accurate class attendance records.
  • Ensure dance studios and storage areas are neat, clean, and organized.
  • Select and manage music and choreography appropriate for each age group and class.
  • Demonstrate movements and routines with enthusiasm and clarity.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Dress in professional, dance-appropriate attire during work hours.
  • Follow instructions and guidance provided by the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Address public concerns and inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Formal dance training required; a college degree in dance or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience teaching dance and working with children aged 2–7.
  • Ability to teach a variety of dance styles and levels in a group setting.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Positive, patient, and responsive approach to young children's behavior and development.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Professional demeanor and a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Must have warm, friendly and patient teaching style.
