Lake Forest College, one of the top liberal arts schools in the Midwest, invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Director for CARE. This position reports directly to the Interim Vice President for Campus Life and is an in-person, on-site position in Lake Forest, IL.
The Director for CARE (Community, Advocacy, Resources and Empowerment) provides leadership for the College’s efforts to foster a campus environment grounded in belonging, dialogue across difference, and inclusion that will benefit all members of the College community. This role integrates student, faculty, and staff engagement, educational programming, and institutional advising to support all constituents in developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for the entire community to engage effectively across difference.
This role is intentionally designed as a bridge between student, faculty, and staff-facing engagement and institutional strategy. In addition to leading programs and services, the Director contributes to the College’s broader efforts to improve campus climate and student, faculty, and staff experience through data-informed insights and recommendations.
The Director serves as a key advisor to the Vice President for Campus Life, in close collaboration with all departments, including HR and Academic Affairs.
Job Responsibilities- Student, Faculty, and Staff Engagement & Center for CARE Leadership Provide leadership and oversight for the Office for CARE, including supervision of Associate Director for CARE and indirect supervision of student staff
- Design and implement programs that support identity development, belonging, and engagement for all students, especially, historicallyunderrepresentedand marginalized student populations
- Indirectlyadviseidentity-based student organizations and support student leadership development
- Dialogue Across Difference & Educational Initiatives Develop, implement, and assess, in collaboration with campus partners, a scaffolded, institution-wide approach to dialogue across difference that integrates curricular and co-curricular learning
- Facilitate and train, in collaboration with campus partners,students, faculty, and staff in constructive dialogue and discourse practices
- Serve as a campus leader in designing educational experiences focused on identity, power, equity, and communication acrossdifference
- Campus Climate, Assessment, and Strategic Insight Collect, analyze, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data related to student experience, sense of belonging, and campus climate
- Partner in the development and implementation of campus climate assessments and related reporting
- Identify trends and emerging concerns and provide regular briefings and recommendations to the Vice President and campus leadership
- Institutional Advising & Cross-Campus Collaboration Serve as a campus resource and advisor to faculty, staff, and leadership on issues related to belonging, equity, and inclusion.
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Campus Life, Human Resources, and other campus partners to integrate inclusive practices across the student, faculty, and staff experience
- Contribute to institutional initiatives, policies, and practices that promote an inclusive campus environment
- Education, Training, and Capacity Building Design and deliver workshops, trainings, and professional development opportunities for students, faculty, and staff on topics related to identity, dialogue, and inclusive community
- Support the development of faculty and staff capacity to engage students and each otheracross difference and foster inclusive learning environments
- Partner infacilitatingcampus-wide responses to incidents of bias or community concern, with a focus on education and healing
- Assessment, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement Develop andmaintainassessment practices to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives
- Prepare regular reports to senior leadership on outcomes, trends, and recommendations
- Use data to inform decision-making and continuously improve programs and strategies
- Demonstrated experience in intercultural engagement work in higher education
- Experiencefacilitatingdialogue or leading educational initiatives focused on identity and difference
- Experience supervising professional and/or student staff
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
- Excellent oral,written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal,verbaland written communication skills. Ability to effectively consult with stakeholders within and outside the college.
