Special Education Teacher
Lincolnshire-Prairie View SD 103 is seeking to fill a leave of absence position for a LBS (special education) teacher that will serve the needs of students in the Intensive Instructional Program (IIP) in grades 6-8. Leave dates:
August 17, 2026 - October 26, 2026. Additional transition days will be required and arranged between the candidate, teacher and principal.
Full-time position reporting to the Director of Student Services and Building Principal.
QualificationsMust hold a valid Illinois PEL License with a LBS 1 endorsement. Be highly qualified in reading and math.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Develop, implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs, Functional Analysis of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Generate any and all appropriate IEP paperwork including progress reports at appropriate times.
- Act as team leader to coordinate services and meetings, collaborate with administrators, and guide paraprofessionals.
- Understand and implement a functional life skills curriculum for middle school students.
- Assess students' developmental, cognitive and social needs, and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs.
- Establish developmentally appropriate instructional and behavioral expectations for students and communicate those to students and their families.
- Develop, implement, and monitor specialized, research-based instruction programs and assistive tech to meet students' unique needs.
- Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, and interesting as well as multicultural gender and ability fair, and developmentally appropriate.
- Select, adapt and individualize materials appropriate for diverse student populations and skill level.
- Assist with student toileting/hygiene.
- Use a variety of assessment strategies, including data gathering, to support the continuous development of students and monitor student progress.
- Develop transition plans for students as they move to high school in compliance with state regulations.
- Initiate and facilitate ongoing communication with parents and IEP team members regarding student needs and progress.
- Recognize student needs and seek the assistance of other professional staff helping students solve emotional, physical and academic difficulties.
- Attend and facilitate parent/teacher conferences, team meetings, and IEP meetings.
- Attend building and district meetings.
