Substitute Teacher for Little Scouts

Lake Forest Community High School's Little Scouts Program is seeking a substitute teacher for Little Scouts. All our Little Scouts teachers provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where positive self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected. They must be available to work on an as-needed basis for any number of hours between 6:45 am and 5:15 pm.

Essential functions include protecting the safety of all children in the center, ensuring children are supervised at all times, using positive phrasing with the children, communicating frequently with children throughout the day, interacting with children during play activities both indoors and on the playground, treating each child with dignity and respect, responding to the individual needs and learning styles of all children, responding to children in distress promptly and appropriately, monitoring children closely during meals, and being responsible for the welfare, health, and safety of children.

They must also respond appropriately and effectively to emergencies and pro-active drills, clean and disinfect mouthed toys before next use, chairs and toys at least once a week or when soiled, and mats and cots weekly, and monitor sleeping infants, toddlers, and preschoolers during nap time.

The teacher should greet and interact with parents at drop off and pick up with a warm smile and positive comments about their child, attend all scheduled staff meetings, work respectfully and cooperatively with co-workers, and perform other job-related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Qualifications and requirements include being 19 years of age or older, DCFS teacher qualified, an associate degree in early childhood education or 60 semester hours in early childhood education preferred, current infant/child CPR certification, current SIDS certification, current shaken baby syndrome certification, strong verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and positive problem-solving attitude, comfortable and pleasant demeanor in busy environments, ability to work under pressure, work harmoniously, cooperatively, and effectively with all stakeholders, follow directives, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to board of education policies and procedures.
