Long-Term Substitute – Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher

Lake Forest School District 67 is seeking a Long-Term Substitute – Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher for Deer Path Middle School, approximately August 24, 2026 to December 4, 2026.

Description: The Family and Consumer Sciences teacher is responsible for helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults. The teacher leads, coordinates, and develops an interdisciplinary approach to Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Salary & Benefits: Starting rate: $299.84 per day. No additional benefits.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree; current State of Illinois teaching certificate registered in Lake County with endorsement in family and consumer sciences; ability to plan and teach appropriate grade-level curriculum; ability to establish collaborative relationships with teaching staff; experience teaching family and consumer sciences topics; strong family and consumer sciences experience and skills; experience teaching middle school students (preferred).

Instructional Methods / Assessment of Learning:

  • Leads students to higher-level thinking skills through questioning strategies requiring recall, explanation, comparison, synthesis, and evaluation.

  • Involves all students in the learning process and adjusts instruction according to needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic and prescriptive instructional techniques, including evaluation tools and diagnostic practices.

  • Facilitates technology infusion, project-based and applied learning experiences, school to career connections.
  • Creates opportunities for parent education.

Planning and Preparation / Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates effective preparation for student instruction in Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Plans lessons linked to the curriculum, reflecting student needs and using available resources.
  • Implements scope and sequence of curriculum and relates plans to defined objectives consistent with district curriculum.
  • Shares current trends and implementation ideas with principal and staff.
  • Coordinates development and enhancement of Family and Consumer Sciences curricula.
  • Develops and carries out plans, programs, and activities to support curricula.
  • Presents professional development training.
  • Collaborates with curriculum committees; locates expertise in the community.
  • Facilitates student participation in national and local competitions.
