The Montessori School of Lake Forest is seeking a Primary Classroom Assistant (ages 3-6) for the school year. The Assistant works together with the Primary Directress to nurture, guide, and teach children utilizing the Montessori method. The ideal candidate will be reliable, and possess a patient, positive, and firm but respectful manner toward children in his/her care.
- Position available for school year
- Hours are 7:30-3:30 daily
- Full year position with paid holiday and paid time off (PTO)
- Pay starting at $18.00 per hour
- Discounted tuition available for children of employees
- 40 hours per week = benefit eligible
- Experience working with children minimum of 1 year REQUIRED
- Position start date August 2026
Responsibilities include:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and supportive respect for colleagues, children, and families
- Supervising indoor and outdoor recess with children
- Observing children, supporting class rules and class procedures, and overall supervision of the classroom
- Assisting children in developing independence with self-care, with snack set-up/clean-up, lunch set-up/clean-up, and cooking projects
- Assisting the teacher in preparing and maintaining the environment, following teacher’s instructions for the care and maintenance of classroom and materials, including classroom stocking, organization, and daily cleaning
- If directed by the teacher, working with individual or small groups of children on limited and specific tasks or projects
- Projecting supportive attitude and employing positive language in all communications with all members of the school community at all times
- If directed, helping maintain current, accurate classroom records
Qualifications include:
- Good communication skills and strong work ethic
- Investment in continuous learning and development
- Ability to collaborate, multi-task and learn through observation and modeling
- Prior experience working with children preferred
