- Must be certified as a Special Education Teacher by the State of Delaware Department of Education.
- Master's Degree in Education preferred, with a focus on Special Education, Instructional Leadership or other related field.
- Five or more years of successful teaching experience.
- Thorough knowledge of best practices in planning/delivering specialized instruction for students with disabilities and writing/monitoring of IEPs in addition to applicable state and federal laws.
- Ability to coach, model, and build the knowledge and skills of teachers
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Excellent skills in collecting, analyzing, and using data to support planning and instruction
- Strong technology skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

JOB GOALTo provide teachers with technical and instructional support related to the identification, evaluation, and placement in order to successfully promote the academic and behavioral progress of students with disabilities within the educational program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Plans, implements and provides follow-up for professional development for teachers in the areas of IEP development, effective teaching strategies, and assessment practices for students with disabilities.
- Consults and supports school teams on appropriate behavioral management and academic supports and interventions for students with disabilities.
- Collects and analyzes data to determine opportunities for increased inclusion and advancement of access for students with disabilities to rigorous coursework.
- Uses data to identify strengths and make recommendations for improvement in District special programs.
- Provides teachers with coaching strategies to support the delivery of content and instruction, quality of classroom environment and management, and delivery and analysis of data for students with disabilities.
- Supports school leaders and staff in the implementation of curriculum and assessment of student learning, including providing professional development as needed and real-time feedback on specialized instructional practices.
- Supports teacher leaders with strategies/professional learning to develop organizational processes and practices within departments/teams to enhance communication, coordination, and collaboration.
- Supports teacher leaders with advancing the ability to plan, lead, and facilitate meetings.
- Provides input into the development of programs and professional learning to support student well-being and academic achievement.
- Appropriately adapts instructional programs and materials for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
- Takes a leadership role in the development and or revision of special programs in the District.
- Collects and analyzes student data to identify strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations for appropriate instructional and management strategies.
- Performs classroom visits and provides teacher modeling of effective practices as needed.
- Assists with the orientation of new teachers to the district.
- Prepares necessary inventories, budget requests, and curriculum documents.
- Develops a working relationship with administration and staff through articulation, planning, mentoring, and classroom involvement.
- Demonstrates a willingness to respond to student, parent, teacher, and administrative needs.
- Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to the position of CIA Specialist.
This position requires an additional 19 days beyond a standard 188-day teacher contract
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTWorks 10 months + 1 month per terms of master agreement.
EVALUATIONPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
