Building Mentor – CROYA Internship

The Building Mentor – CROYA Internship is a hands-on experience giving college students the ability to interact with and mentor 7th-12th graders while supporting daily program operations. Interns will meet weekly with supervisors and have performance evaluations at midterms and at program completion. Evaluations will be based on the intern's ability and effectiveness in achieving their core responsibilities.
Examples of DutiesCore Responsibilities
A CROYA Intern's responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:
- Participating in youth committee meetings at CROYA
- Networking with students in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, both at CROYA and at the area schools
- Supervising drop-in hours at the CROYA Student Union
- Participating in CROYA-organized Community Service Projects
- Attending and co-facilitating CROYA's Peer Training course at Lake Forest High School and/or Woodlands Academy
- Supporting the CROYA Staff in identifying young adults who present with psychological and/or social-emotional needs
- Assisting and/or developing programming specifically tailored to current CROYA attendees
- Attending CROYA Staff Meetings when appropriate
- Assisting CROYA full-time staff as needed to achieve the organization's goals
Academic Credit This position can be structured as an internship for college credit. CROYA will work with your college or university to facilitate necessary documentation, hour tracking, and evaluations required to fulfill academic program guidelines.
Reports to: CROYA Student Union Program Manager
QualificationsRequired Skills and Experience
- Currently attending college or university and pursuing a degree in Psychology, Communications, or a similar field
- An outgoing personality prepared to interact with youth of varying ages and backgrounds
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Training/Support Provided
- Professional training for working with middle and high school students during after-school hours, covering topics such as conflict intervention, establishing appropriate professional boundaries, and understanding mandatory reporting protocols regarding student safety and welfare.
- Participation in full-time staff meetings and check-ins
- Participation in full-time staff training, as applicable
- Weekly check-in meeting with supervisor and/or CROYA Manager
Hours and Pay
- Temporary part-time internship with a duration of 1 semester
- Approximately 150 hours/duration of internship or 10 hours/week
- Weekly schedule is flexible
- Anticipated Hiring Rate: Starting at $16.00 per hour
- Full pay range: $15.00 - $20.76
- Academic credit may be applied to this position
