About the Role
Northern Trust, a Fortune 500 company, is a globally recognized, award‑winning financial institution that has been in continuous operation since 1889. This office‑based position requires the Personal/Universal Banker to deliver an exceptional client service experience while managing a full range of banking products and services. The role includes executing and managing administrative and operational activities related to client accounts, handling money movements, preparing client materials, resolving inquiries, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities are performed under general supervision but largely independently, and the position is located onsite.
- Understand the business model and engage appropriate subject matter experts to explore opportunities with clients. Provide holistic advice and identify shared needs.
- Execute and/or submit client account servicing activities within appropriate time frames, including processing of wires and fund transfers, opening and closing accounts, maintaining accurate records, imaging documents, and researching client issues.
- Proactively communicate with relationship management and operations teams to obtain necessary information for successful execution of requested activities.
- Handle paying and receiving activities, including cash transactions and daily balancing, while fully meeting Wealth Management Lobby Banking Operations policies.
- Assist with maintenance and servicing of Safe Deposit Boxes where available.
- Demonstrate expertise in setting up all types of client accounts and services; review documentation for completeness and follow through to avoid deficiencies.
- Maintain awareness of policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines and rapidly address issues or concerns.
- Utilize and expand knowledge of business applications, online tools, and technology enhancements to maintain high standards of service.
- Stay informed on new products and services to answer client queries and support cross‑selling efforts.
- Monitor banking reports and assist with banking audits as directed.
- Serve as a mentor to fellow Personal Bankers, offering guidance and direction.
- Share deposit expertise and train others as directed by the Team Leader/Manager.
- Cross‑train on the Northern Trust teller system.
- 3‑5 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of banking operations, products, and services, preferably from prior work experience.
- Understanding of federal regulations and banking guidelines.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills to research, resolve requests, and manage conflicting priorities.
- Critical thinking ability and proficiency working independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Salary range: $52,800 – $79,200 USD.
