Position: Respiratory Therapist RRT Full Time Nights Sign on Bonus Eligible

Overview

Respiratory Therapist RRT Full Time Nights with a $10K Sign on Bonus at Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital.

Salary range: $38.50 - $50.05 hourly. Placement within the salary range is based on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Performs respiratory care procedures including patient assessments and implements treatment and therapies in accordance with department and hospital protocols and physician orders.
  • Implements and evaluates the plan of care related to respiratory procedures, including aerosol therapy, secretion mobilization, and hyperinflation therapies.
  • Provides care for patients requiring ventilator assistance and complex respiratory devices; interprets clinical data to deliver quality patient care.
  • Performs comprehensive ventilator management and monitors the cardiopulmonary status of patients receiving intensive respiratory care.
  • Demonstrates competency to perform, without supervision, all procedures required in adult ICU, Pediatrics, Emergency Room, and Special Care Nursery/NICU.
  • Performs diagnostic studies as designated by department policy and/or physician order.
  • Initiates and monitors invasive and non-invasive arterial blood gas measurements.
  • Consults with physicians, RNs, other healthcare professionals, and participates in daily patient rounds to promote consistent quality of care.
  • Monitors patient response to therapeutic interventions and documents progress toward outcomes in patient charts in compliance with standards.
  • Serves as a resource and role model for new staff and assists with precepting and orientation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and effective communication across departments to accomplish daily work and maintain an environment of excellence.
  • Participates in huddles and stays informed of communications relevant to the department.
  • Manages work schedule efficiently, completes timely documentation, and ensures accurate billing and charges for services.

Qualifications Required
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (within three months of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Academy of Pediatrics (within three months of hire)
  • Associate Degree in Applied Arts/Science (AAS)
Preferred
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) – National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) – National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) – National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS)
